What if a marching band was like a human body?
Alright. Say a marching band is like a human body. If the drumline is the "heart" of the marching band, what body organs do you think the other groups in the band correspond to? Here are a few to think about: drum major, colorguard, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, mellophone, baritone, tuba, and front ensemble (pit). If there are more, feel free to add on. Use your imagination!

- The tuba would definately be the lungs.
- This is a really interesting question! Heart/pulse-drumline Brain-drum major eyes-colorguard lungs-trumpet skin-pit heart/pulse-sousas Nerves-flutes and clarinets spleen-saxes and mellos (crucial to survival, but sometimes forgotten about) Wow! That was fun!
- The clarinets would be the fat because they just take up space on the field. lol The band director would be the brains, and the drum major would be the spinal cord since he relays the directors' messages to the rest of the band. The trumpets are the vocal cords because they like to be the loudest thing on the field.
- Then the band would have gas and creak and fall apart as it moves along. Cool question!
- Private area........ummmm.....Alto Saxes
- I would say all the woodwinds together form the appendix. You don't notice them until they cause pain, and then the best solution is to get rid of them. (Sorry, I come from those traditional all-brass bands). The trumpets would be the blood, because in drill they are always on the move. Mellophones would be lungs, they have those long steady harmonies, but also have fast rapid parts when the music is quicker. Sousaphone/tubas remind me of . . . my rumbling stomach. I agree with everyone else having the drum major as a spine, relaying messages. The color guard would be good as the face though. They show expressions. The pit could be all the bones, as there are many different sizes, shapes and forms and help hold things together.
